Marty Miller has been fascinated with the photographic point of view since picking up his Mom’s Kodak Instamatic 126 in 1965 and trying to squeeze reality into a tiny frame. In 1970, a government sponsored trip to Southeast Asia provided a new context, and the Post Exchange privileges that went with sergeant stripes provided the Nikon gear to take that viewpoint to the next level. A 1979 graduate of Lyndon State College in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom with a B.S. in media communications, Marty developed a style that exhibited a strong graphic sense and favored tight editorial shots. He has been shooting professionally in the Massachusetts metrowest area for over twenty years now, his versatility evident in his advertising and stock images. Digital technology has stimulated his style and output, both maturing and rejuvenating his work. Marty is both technician and artist. In 2003, Marty and his family were fortunate enough to make their home in Berlin, a town reminiscent of his Vermont growing up, and a place that continues to inspire his recent editorial work. At home in this community of people who continue to mark their environment with small farms, he is currently documenting the beauty and uses of the Berlin landscape and the character and spirit of its people. |
